The period from March 1 to October 31 in each year is fire season.
Fire permits are issued by County Fire Guardians. Request for Fire Permits can be made with your area fire guardian or by contacting the County Office. Look for an information flyer in the mail containing a map of the County's area of responsibility for issuing fire permits.
Residents in areas of the White Zone and Green Zone outside of the former no-permit zone will continue to get fire permits from the Alberta Forestry Service. To obtain a fire permit within the Fire Protection Area contact your local Alberta Forestry office by calling 310-0000.
Remember the lighting of most fires in the County without a fire permit is against Provincial law. According to the Forest and Prairie Protection Act, those who start fires without a permit or negligently with a permit may be subject to paying the costs of fire suppression and fines.
Should you have any questions, please contact County Fire Chief Leo Tobin at 776-0007. Visit www.albertafirebans.ca for information about current fire bans in the Province of Alberta or call Alberta's Fire Ban Information Line 1-866-FYI-FIRE (394-3473).
To report a wildfire call toll free 310-FIRE (3473). Or check the Alberta Wildfire Status online.
